Chadar Trek
Chadar Trek : A unique experience in the Zanskar region of Ladakh
When you think of trekking in the Zanskar, the first thought that comes to your mind is Chadar Trek. If you search for the best treks in India or the most rewarding trek in India, Chadar Trek will be among the top suggestions.
Chadar which is a word of Hindi origin literally translates to a blanket. During winters the Zanskar river freezes and a blanket of ice is formed. You got it right! You will be trekking on a frozen river.
The locals call the frozen river trail Khaado Sanglam.
However adventurous it might sound, the Chadar Trek is not for the faint-hearted and non-serious trekkers. The temperatures may drop below -25 degrees at night. The Chadar trek, categorised as a difficult one, is suitable for trekkers who are looking forward to an extremely adventurous trek. The Chadar Trek will test you physically and mentally.
The Chadar Trek that stretches over 62km is ideally an 8-day itinerary.
